Iowa Trappers Assn., Inc. Directors Spring Meeting

April 15, 2007

Call to Order

President Spencer Hill called the spring director’s meeting to order at 10:00am at the American State Bank in Osceola, IA.

Roll Call

Roll call was answered by 4 officers, 11directors, 4 directors at large, 1 proxy representative, FTA director Dean Mitchell and NTA director George Scalf.

New Directors

None

Approve Agenda

Bruce Hutton had asked to speak under new business.
Election of officers under new business.
A couple directors which have not met their meeting attending requirements, placed under new business.
Donation request by Cody Hutton, Craig Sweet will address if Cody is not here. Address under new business.

Motion made by Gene Purdy to approve the agenda. Seconded by Jim Noneman. Carried.

Minutes

Executive Council discussed having all ITA column reports for the TPC going to Spencer Hill first for approval and then he will forward to the Trapper and Predator Caller.
Motion made by Tom Walters to accept the executive council decision, seconded by Randy Mitchell. Carried.

Secretary’s Report

Dita Mallon reported that current membership is 1663 with 285 lifetime with 6 deceased.
Dita Mallon reported that the changes in subscription handling in getting better.
Dita Mallon inquired about updating an old brochure. Directors will look at it and we will address under new business.

Treasurer’s Report

Chris Grillot reported on the finances.
USSA affiliation dues were $250 and they are suggesting a voluntary increase of $500.
Motion made by Dean Mitchell to pay the $500 affiliation dues. Motion died for lack of second.
Motion made by Jeff Kempf to pay $250 for dues. Seconded by Jim Mallon. Carried.
Chris Grillot received a check for the FHA 50/50 draw of $488.44. 2 coon pelts were unsold. The money will be sent when those are sold.
Half the money from the 50/50 Draw goes to the first place winner and the other half gets split with ITA and NTA.
Fur Harvester 50/50 Draw:

First Place: Kane Farlow- receives $244.22 and a FHA Jacket

Second Place: George Scalf-receives 1 dz. 220 traps

Third Place: Ted Wallace-receives 1 dz. #11 traps

Chris Grillot mentioned that Dita Mallon will be helping Chris destroy old records except what is needed for tax purposes.
Chris Grillot reported the purchase of a new laptop computer with associated software for the treasurers’ position. Purchase price of $1281.13

Correspondence

Tom Walters presented IA Ag Development Authority asking for a donation. It was decided not to pursue.
Tom Walters received a thank you from Miss Iowa for the fur coat.
Dwayne Kay received a thank you for the ITA having a booth at the Pheasant Fest.
Jim Mallon commented on Miss Iowa at the UNI Dome show was well received.
Fayette County Fair would like the ITA to have a booth.
Motion made by Jeff Kempf to have the ITA booth for the cost of $65 plus three tickets for the cost of $21. Seconded by Kaare Sanness. Carried.
Chris Grillot received the following:
Iowa FFA is hosting a special recognition luncheon on April 17 at 11AM at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames. Looking for a representative to attend and to present the Outdoor Recreation award.
Iowa FFA is presenting an award to the ITA on April 16 for a special Citation Award at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames. Gene Purdy will attend.
AEFA Securities Litigation Settlement Class Action Lawsuit against Ameriprise.
Motion by Dean Mitchell to sign the form against the Ameriprise. Seconded by Tom Walters. Carried.
The DNR will be having a general Wildlife discussion on April 19 at the Wallace Building in Des Moines. Spencer Hill will contact Ron Andrews to be on the mailing list for the DNR ICN hearings.
USSA is looking to set up an advocacy network with one person of the ITA as a main contact person. Spencer Hill will disperse to the board any notification
Circle of life DVD’s arrived, we have 10 copies.
Iowa Sportsmen Federation is having their general meeting on April 21, 2007 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds with elections.
Dita Mallon received an email from Robert Baker to add his website link to our website. His web site is trapping related and includes an online trapping university. Jeff Kempf and Gene Purdy will address this.
Spencer Hill received:

o       Carol Roland is looking for someone to attend their Marion County Women of the Outdoors July 28th and explain proper trapping techniques and all things pertaining to trapping.

o       Spencer Hill is asking if the ITA would be willing to donate to the   NOCA Grant for wet land asking for $50 per year for the next 3 years.

o       Motion made by Dwayne Kay to send $50 for the next 3 years to the NOCA Grant. Seconded by Randy Mitchell. Carried.

District Direct Reports

·        Gene Purdy will speak to the5th grade at Nodaway Valley Middle School on the 27th of April.

·        Dwayne Kay received the information on the Pheasant Fest show in St. Paul, Minn. Jan. 18-20, 2008.

·        Motion made by Jeff Kempf to have the ITA booth at the Pheasant Fest in St. Paul, Minn. on Jan. 18-20, 2008 at the cost of $560. Seconded by Kaare Sanness. Carried

·        There will need to be a minimum of 6 people to be available to work the booth. Dwayne Kay will reserve 8 rooms.

·        Dwayne Kay presented the idea of having a 2’x7’ banner made with the slogan “Trappers control predators at no cost to hunters”.

·        Motion made by Mike Sells to purchase the 2’X7’ banner with the ITA logo for $110. Seconded by Jeff Kempf. Carried.

·        Craig Sweet received a request from the Spring Brook Conservation Center for a donation to update their equipment. Spring Brook Conservation Center does many youth activities.

·        Motion made by Craig Sweet to donate $1000 to the Spring Brook Conservation Center. Seconded by Jeff Kempf. Carried.

FTA Report

·        The Mississippi Refuge is entering the public comment period. So far trapping has not lost anything. They will allow otter trapping if the state has a season.

·        Minnesota Animal Protective Institute lawsuit in on going. Gary Meis will give a full up date at the FTA Convention in Barnum, Minn.

·        2008 FTA Convention will be held in Columbia, Missouri.

·        This year all officers’ positions are up for election plus 5 members of the Governing Board.

NTA Report

·        Vice President of the NTA has resigned.

·        The NTA President position is up for election.

·        Minnesota lawsuit is still not settled.

·        NTA is working on the Maine lawsuit.

·        Wisconsin has produced a brochure about Body-gripping Traps, Identification, use and pet removal.

·        FBU Banquets in Ottumwa and Des Moines earned a total of $11,750.52.

Reap Report

George Scalf and Jeff Kempf reported on an article in the paper about the agriculture and natural resources budget bill includes $15.5million for REAP.

Legislative Report

Linden Sutcliff reported to Spencer Hill about the exotic animal bill using the scientific animal names on the bill, coyote and mink are included on the exotic list. It is written that you if have a live coyote in a trap you have to have a special license to have it. It has passed the house. Need to watch this bill closely.

Fur Coat

Dean Hoffman is taking care of the coat.

DNR Report

Spencer Hill reported for Ron Andrews which was sent via email.
Otter season will be the same as last year with the same quota of 400. Should be able to liberalize next year.
Beaver season would close April 1 instead of April 15.
Bobcat season; hunting and trapping. 150 open zone quota. Open zone is southern 2 tiers of counties. Same CITES tag reporting requirements. Open Nov. 3 to 150 quota plus 48 hours grace period or January 31st, whichever comes first.
Hunters are required to have a fur harvester’s license as well as a hunting license and habitat stamp.

2007 Fall Convention – Southwest

Craig Sweet reported that the convention is coming together. We will tour the fairgrounds after the meeting.

2008 NTA Convention

Spencer would like someone to host and /or co-host the convention.
Anyone interested please let Spencer know.
Tailgaters, dealer and camping committees are needed.
The Convention date is August 7-10, 2008.

2009 Fall Convention – Northeast

Dean Hoffman will work on getting a location.

Unfinished Business

Chris Grillot checked into being a merchant for accepting credit cards.
Chris Grillot will check to see if it is possible to use the credit card for trial period to see if it would be feasible. It was decided that the trial period should be done for the fall convention. We will need to state that memberships are

 non-refundable.

Motion made by Tom Walters to table this decision for use of the credit card. Seconded by Dean Mitchell. Carried.
Chris Grillot stated that we are down to 2 ITA hats in inventory.
Mike Sells reported that he checked into having a fur auction and found that it will require a lot of work and it would require more manpower than what we have.
Mike Sells reported on the ITA creating a Conservation Officer of the Year Award and the DNR personnel he spoke with thought it would be a good idea.
Motion made by Dean Hoffman to send $1000 to NTA legal defense fund. Mike Sells seconded. Carried.
Motion made by Jeff Kempf to spend $500 at the FTA and NTA Conventions. Seconded by Jim Mallon. Carried
Dita Mallon will work on updating the pamphlet for the ITA. Discussion included increasing to a bi-fold with FTA and NTA membership blanks included.

New Business

Bruce Hutton presented to the ITA that the Pheasants Forever would like to have the ITA have a link on our website to the Pheasants Forever’s website. They will put the ITA website on theirs.
Motion made by Gene Purdy to link to the Pheasant Forever website. Seconded by Jeff Kempf. Carried
Election of officers: Secretary and Vice President
Chris Grillot nominated Dita Mallon.
Tom Walters nominated Jeff Kempf.
Dita Mallon reported that district directors, Ralph Hardy (16) and Dan Shaw (6), have not met their obligations as district director and their terms have expired.

Iowa Trappers Assn., Inc. Directors Winter Meeting

February 4, 2007

Call to Order

President Spencer Hill called the winter director’s meeting to order at 10:15 am at the Iowa State Tree Nursery, Ames, IA.

Roll Call

Roll call was answered by 4 officers, 7directors, 3 directors at large, 2 proxy representatives, FTA director Dean Mitchell and DNR Ron Andrews. 

New Directors

None

Approve Agenda

Budget will be discussed under the treasurer report
Mike Sells will give the NTA report in the absents of George Scalf.
Inventory will be discussed under new business.
Motion made by Gene Purdy to approve the Agenda. Seconded by Randy Mitchell. Carried

Minutes

Executive Council met February 3, 2007 to audit the treasurer’s books.
Executive Council approved a new software program for Chris Grillot so she is able to put all treasurers’ information on computer. Approved
Executive Council recommend that the treasurer, secretary, convention coordinator and a presidential appointee to count cash at the end of convention.
Motion made by Ed Clouse to have the treasurer, secretary, convention coordinator and presidential appointee to count cash after the convention. Seconded by Gene Purdy. Carried
It was discussed about accepting credit card. Chris Grillot will check into this and report at the next meeting.
Cody Hutton had asked about using the gambling license for Texas Hold’em. The request was denied.
Ed Clouse asked to have bobcat print donated to the FBU banquet. The Executive Council approved a framed bobcat print for George Scalf and Cody Hutton FBU banquets. Motion made by Gene Purdy to approve the Executive Council decision. Seconded by Randy Mitchell. Carried.
Motion made by Randy Mitchell to accept Executive Council and Secretary Minutes.  Seconded by Dwayne Kay. Carried.

Secretary’s Report

Dita Mallon reported that the convention mailing received 73 new members and 92 renew and at the convention 6 lifetime, 78 new and 96 renew.
Current membership is 1612 with 284 lifetime and 5 of those deceased.
Dita Mallon reported that F&W Publications, which owns the Trapper and Predator Caller, has changed the handling of the subscriptions. Subscription fulfillment is no longer done at the TPC office in Wisconsin. This has been moved to a company in Florida
Dita Mallon reported that there have been some issues with this change and they are trying to work on these issues. We will need to keep a close watch on this, to see if any action needs to be taken.
Dita Mallon reported that Wayne Funke was the winner of the membership contest.
Motion made by Dwayne Kay to accept the secretary’s report, seconded by Jim Mallon. Carried

Treasurer’s Report

Chris Grillot reported on current finances.
Chris Grillot spoke with the accountant and she has made some recommended changes. There will be more detailed categories.
Chris received a rebate check from NAFA for $2008.14 and a $100 from NAFA for the 50/50 auction. The Fur Harvester Auction rebate check was $817.06 and $79.26 from Moyle Mink.
Chris Grillot presented the Convention Report.
Chris Grillot asked permission to destroy old records that are within the IRS guidelines.
Motion made by Craig Sweet to permit Chris to destroy old records per IRS guidelines. Seconded by Jim Mallon. Carried.
Gene Purdy presented the budget 2007.
Motion made by Craig Sweet to accept the budget for 2007. Seconded by Randy Porche. Carried
Chris Grillot reported that the accountant has been extremely helpful in setting up the accounts and has done this free of charge. Chris will be having him do the taxes for the end of the year.
The Executive Council has audited the books and has found everything to be in order.
Motion by Mike Sells to accept the audit report. Seconded by Jim Mallon. Carried.

Correspondence

Dwayne Kay received a thank you at the Pheasant Fest from Extension Wildlife Specialist for supporting them in their Hunter Safety Course. They are asking if we would like to put on a trapping demo in Madrid, Iowa June 1-3 for their Hunter Safety Course. Jeff Kempf will contact the person in charge. Gene Purdy and Cody Hutton agreed to help Jeff with this.
Chris Grillot received the following requests and thank you:
The Iowa FFA is having a special recognition luncheon April 17th at 11AM. Chris will find out where the meeting will be held and we will discuss at the next directors meeting to find out who will if possible represent the ITA.
Thank you from Gary Meis, President of the Minnesota Trappers Assoc. for the donation to the trappers defense fund.
USSA is asking for a donation for legal defense fund for the Minnesota and Maine lawsuit.
Motion made by Gene Purdy to send $1000 to USSA to be earmarked for the Maine Lawsuit. Seconded by Mike Sells Carried.
Ronald McDonald House is requesting a donation.
Motion made by Gene Purdy to send $100 to the Ronald McDonald House. Seconded by Ed Clouse. Carried
Chris Grillot will put a reminder to bring pop tabs to convention for the Ronald McDonald House in the TPC.
Ashley Andrews Miss Rodeo America 2007 sent a thank you for our donation to part of her fur coat.
FTA is starting a new program; a complimentary subscription to the FTA affiliate, the magazine must go to a group other than the affiliate. It may not go to an individual.
Motion made by Gene Purdy to have a complimentary subscription to go to the middle school library of the town hosting the ITA convention. Seconded by Ed Clouse. Carried.
Moyle Mink sent coupons for their 5% program (3% to NTA and 2% to the state which the order was originated).
Friends of the NRA are requesting a donation for their banquet, which will be held March 24 at Britt, IA.
Motion made by Dean Mitchell to donate $500 to the Friends of the NRA Banquet to underwrite a gunf. Seconded by Jeff Kempf. Carried
Dita Mallon received the following correspondence:
Secretary of the Massachusetts Trappers Assoc. is asking for any important dates for 2008 for the ITA so they can put on their calendar as part of their fundraising event.
Russ Vonbehren asked if it would be alright by the board to have Dan Dalton give any TIP reports in his absence. Dan had graciously offered this to Russ. Board of Directors felt this was fine.
Spencer Hill received a request from REAP to have a link put on the ITA web sight for their website and vise versa. Motion made by Jeff Kempf to attach a link to REAP on the ITA sight and an ITA link on the REAP web site. Seconded by Randy Mitchell. Carried. Cindy Seff is requesting donations for the 4 regional NTA banquets and the National NTA banquet. Motion made by Mike Sells to donate a framed bobcat print to the 4 regional NTA banquets and the National NTA banquet. Seconded by Jim Mallon. Carried

District Direct

Dwayne Kay wanted to know if we would like to set up a booth at the Pheasant Fest Jan. 18 -20 in 2009 in Saint Paul, Minn. Dwayne Kay will send for information packet. The ITA Booth at the Pheasant Fest was well received.
Dwayne Kay reported the abuse of using Golden Malrin not for its intended use and using it as poisonous bait for other animals.
Motion made by Jeff Kempf seconded by Dean Mitchell to reimburse Spencer Hill for chairs and electric cord purchased at the Pheasant Fest. Carried.
Iowa Taxidermist Association is requesting a plaque for the best furbearer mount donation by the ITA.  Motion made by Jeff Kempf to donate a plaque to The Iowa Taxidermist Association for best furbearer mount. Seconded by Gene Purdy. Carried
Craig Sweet - Iowa Sports Show booth consider it for next year if the price is reasonable.
Jeff Kempf - SE IA sportsman expo $400-$600 for booth. It was decided that it was cost prohibited.

FTA Report

Dean Mitchell reported that Dave Hastings and Gary Jepson attend the BMP meeting in South Carolina.
The FTA continues to work with the Minnesota. Trappers Assoc., NTA, and USSA on the Minnesota. Lawsuit. The HSUS has withdrawn from the lawsuit. The Animal Protection Institute and Help Our Wolves Live are still in court.
The FTA Convention will be held in Barnum, Minnesota June 14-17
This year is election for all officers and 5 members of the Governing Board. Nominations by members for these offices should be sent to the nominating committee.

NTA Report

Mike Sells reported for George Scalf.
Mike Sells reported on election results. The NTA has a new President, Jim Buell.
NTA has moved their headquarters to a larger and less expensive building, only approximately 5 minutes from the old location.
Minnesota lawsuit against the DNR proposed settlement from HSUS has not been approved.
There are currently 8 animal cruelty bills and 17 trapping bills in various states.

Legislative Report

Gene Purdy reported that the legislative reception went very well.
Iowa Conservation Alliance had a conference call to discuss some issues before the legislative reception.
The findings of the nitrates in the water are natural, not manure or fertilizer caused. It is coming from open ground, such as corn and bean fields. They are pushing for more filter stripes and pastures to help with the run off.
There will be no legislation for a dove season this year.
Lyndon Sutcliffe from Mason City reported on concern that the Iowa Humane Society wants to ban ownership of exotic animals, which includes coyotes and wolves.  He is asking for support when a bill is created and is doable for all organizations.

Fur Coat

We are going to do another sheared beaver coat for Miss Iowa.

DNR Report

Ron Andrews stated there is discussion of possibly ending beaver season April 1st instead of 15th.
Ron reported on a successful Otter season with the quota being met in 10days and 469 otters taken.
Recommendations for 2007 season would be to allow a quota of 500 otter.
There is hope to have a bobcat season this year with the season running from Nov 3rd thru Jan 31st and allow one bobcat per licensed fur harvester in a designated area of Iowa.

2007 Fall Convention – Southwest

Craig Sweet had put a report in the TPC about the convention.
Hotel accommodations are within 1 ½mile of the campgrounds.

2008 NTA Convention

Need to be setting up chairmen for the convention.

2009 Fall Convention – Northeast

Jim Mallon expressed concerns about directors stepping up and heading conventions in the northeast quadrant.

Unfinished Business

At the last meeting it was discussed about a trailer for the ITA equipment and booth.
Cody Hutton, Dwayne Kay and Ed Grillot will get together and purchase a trailer. They will price a 6’x6’x12’ trailer with tandem axel, 2” ball, cargo door and side door.
Motion made by Gene Purdy to set up a committee to get prices on a trailer and then to contact the Executive Council for approval. Seconded by Jim Mallon.
Motion made by Jeff Kempf to amend the motion to allow the committee to go ahead with purchase of a trailer with a budget of $4000 without Executive Council approval. Seconded by Cody Hutton. Carried.
Motion made by Gene Purdy to spend $4000 on a trailer without executive council approval. Seconded by Jim Mallon. Carried
The Committee will be Cody Hutton, Dwayne Kay and Ed Grillot to purchase a trailer. They will purchase a 6’x6’x12’ trailer with tandem axel, 2” ball, cargo door and side door.
Mike Sells would like to pursue the conservation officer of the year award.
Motion made by Jeff Kempf that Mike Sells would be the coordinator for the conservation officer of the year award and he will set up the guidelines and bring back to the board for final approval. Seconded by Gene Purdy. Carried.
Jim Mallon wanted to know if Miss Iowa will be available for the UNI Dome Show. He will contact Tom Walters.
Jim Mallon suggested putting a REAP license plate on the new trailer.
Motion made by Jeff Kempf to put a REAP license plate on the new trailer if possible. Seconded by Jim Mallon. Carried

New Business

Chris Grillot reported that there was a large amount of old inventory
It was discussed to use the old patches for scavenger hunt
Gene Purdy would like the lapel pins for the legislative reception.
Motion made by Jeff Kempf to give Spencer Hill and Judy Sells patches for craft ideas. Seconded by Cody Hutton. Carried
Motion made by Jeff Kempf to allow up to $1500 for Chris Grillot to get a laptop, printer and associated software for her treasurer duties. Seconded by Jim Mallon. Carried.
Mike Sells asked if the ITA would like to donate to the Fur Harvester Education Fund.
Motion made by Jeff Kempf to send $500 to Fur Harvester Education for Binders. Second by Gene Purdy. Carried.
Mike Sells asked the Board if they would be interested in holding a fur auction.
Mike Sells will gather information about a fur auction and present it to the Board.
We will meet in Osceola for our April meeting on the 15th. Craig Sweet will get a meeting place lined up.

Minutes

     Executive Council

Executive Council met on June 18th 
Anna Marie Scalf received a contract for the Quad Cities Show for Feb 15-18, 2007 to have a conservation nonprofit booth. Motion made by Jeff  Kempf , seconded by Ed Clouse to send in the contract for $100 to have a booth at the Quad Cities Show.  Carried.
The 2007 fall convention needs to be moved to September 14–16 instead of September 7 -9. Motion made by Gene Purdy, seconded by Ed Clouse to move the 2007 Fall convention to September 14-16. Carried
Motion made by Mike Free, seconded by Jim Mallon to accept the Executive Council minutes. Carried.

 

Secretary’s Report

We have received 80 new members from sweepstakes mailing so far.
Dita Mallon reported current membership as 1540.
Life Time membership as 267- 5 are deceased.
Motion made by Jim Noneman, seconded by Gene Purdy to accept the secretary report. Seconded by Gene Purdy. Carried

 

Treasurer’s Report

Anna Marie Scalf reported on current balances.
Anna Marie Scalf received on April 28th Checks from FBU totaling $13.683.40
Motion made by Gene Purdy, seconded by Jeff Kempf to pay to have the hard drive cleared on the old computer then donate the computer to Tenco. Carried
Spencer Hill checked with Belmond printer they had suggested copying the membership blanks instead of printing them. This would save a significant amount of money. 1000 blanks = 250 copies. Spencer Hill will get exact figures.
Larry Anderson has been paid in paid in full for his Bobcat print. Six of these prints have been sold
A 2 year gambling license at the cost of $150 expires July 31, 2008 has been paid.
2006 fall convention patches have been ordered at the cost $2.50 each.
Anna asked if the ITA wanted to renew affiliation dues with International Foundation for the Conservation of Natural Resources for $1000. Motion made by Ed Grillot, seconded by Mike Sells to table the decision until the next meeting. Carried
It was asked if the ITA would like to donate $500 to the NTA White Elephant Auction. Motion made by Dean Hoffman, seconded by Mike Sells to give $500 to the NTA White Elephant Auction. Carried.  
Jim and Dita Mallon are to head up a meeting at the NTA convention to spend $500 at the white elephant auction.
Anna Marie Scalf purchased a table for the awards banquet for the NTA for $250 with 8 tickets and $70 for an ad in the program since the deadline was the 15th of July.    
Motion made by Mike Sells, seconded by Dwayne Kay to reimburse Anna Marie Scalf for the cost of the table and ad at a total of $320.  Carried.
It was asked who is on the committee to set up guidelines for the convention featured demo speaker. Dita Mallon will review this and report at the fall directors meeting.
Anna Marie Scalf reported on the convention mailing for the sweepstakes
Anna Marie Scalf received a bill for the fur coat for $2195 in return the ITA received a check for $300. The total cost of the fur coat was $1895.
Motion made by Gene Purdy, seconded by Dennis Johnson to accept the treasurers report. Carried.

 

Correspondence

·        Anna Marie Scalf received several thank you’s from FFA.

·        Anna Marie Scalf received a contract from UNI dome for the March 9 -11 sports show for the cost of $365. Motion made by Ed Grillot, seconded by Jim Mallon to send in the contract for the UNI Dome Sports Show. Carried.

·        Anna Marie Scalf received a thank you from the winner of the Outdoor Recreation award from the IA.FFA Foundation.

·        Anna Marie Scalf received a letter for a $50 donation for the Fur Coat fund for Miss Rodeo America by Aug 25th Motion made by Jeff Kempf , seconded by Dwayne Kay  to send $50 for the Fur Coat fund for Miss Rodeo America. Carried.

·        George Scalf received a letter from the Florida Trappers and Hunters Association for a donation for their fall convention. Motion made by George Scalf, seconded by Dan Reich to send a $100. Motion reversed. Motion made by George Scalf, seconded by Dan Reich to send a Bobcat print from artist Larry Anderson instead. Carried.

·        Spencer Hill received a thank you from Mason City Convention Bureaus.

·        Spencer Hill received a request for a donation for the Pennsylvania Trappers Association.

·        Iowa Sportsman Alliance is meeting with the DNR.

·        Nominations for treasurer have been accepted by Anna Marie Scalf and Chris Grillot.

·        Ed Grillot reported he received check for $800 for the fall convention from Friends of the NRA.

District Director Reports

·        Dean Hoffman and Dan Reich both expressed concern over a ban on trapping on the Mississippi river.

Spencer received an email from Ron Andrews. Otter season is a go; we will try again for a Bobcat season in 2007.

FTA Report

Dean Mitchell reported that the financial condition of the FTA is solid.
The FTA has a new treasurer, Shelly Julien.
Board donation $5000 to USSA
There are 5 seats available for the governing board.
The 2008 FTA convention is scheduled for June 18-21 in Columbia, Missouri

NTA Report

Chris Flynn is Vice President of the NTA.
The fight is on hold for returning trapping to Massachusetts.
Michigan lost use of some snares and  also lost the bobcat season in the Upper Peninsula
Maryland lost trapping in Howard County.
Conventions in Tennessee, Idaho and Maryland were reported as all good conventions.
Texas NTA office has been sold.
Kansas convention is  August 3 - 6

 Fur Coat

·        Chris and Ed Grillot brought pictures of Miss Iowa receiving her fur coat.

·        Fur coat was well received.

·        Ed gave a speech about the coat as a natural resource which was also well received

·        Miss Iowa will not be able to attend our convention

·        Miss Iowa will be asked to make two appearances, the UNI Dome and Legislative Reception in Des Moines in January. Spencer will find out date of the Reception.

·        Dean Hoffman donated  $300 for the fur coat.

·        George Scalf will find out about a fur coat for Miss America from the NTA.

DNR Report

            ·        Listed under correspondence.

2006 Fall Convention – Southeast Quadrant

·        Ed Grillot reported that the convention is coming along well.

·        The Directors Meeting is scheduled for Friday at 1:00pm, Motion made by Jeff Kempf, seconded by Mike Free to have the meeting at 1:00 Friday afternoon. Carried 

·        We will have our Friday night Potluck.

·        Chris Grillot wants to have face painting and crafts for kids.

·        Wayne Funke is donating a filled trappers basket for a new member Grubstakes drawing at the convention.

2007 Fall Convention – Southwest Quadrant

·        Dennis Johnson had a meeting with the president of the Clark County Fair Grounds in Osceola.

·        Fall convention will be a week later Sept 14 -16

2008 Fall Convention – Northwest Quadrant

·        Dwayne Kay is looking at the Humboldt Fair Ground or Algona Fair Ground.

·        We will not have our regular fall convention if we host the  NTA convention

 

Unfinished Business

·        Spencer Hill has withdrawn his nomination for president.

·        Gene Purdy nominated Craig Sweet as president. He has accepted the nomination

·        Nominations will remain open until general membership meeting at the fall convention.

·        Gene Purdy had received applications for the ITA scholarship. Spencer Hill appointed, Gene Purdy, Wayne Funke and Randy Porsch to select a scholarship winner.

 

New Business

·        Mike Sells proposed to meet at the fair grounds where the convention will be held at our June/July meeting to view the site prior to the fall convention.

·        Spencer Hill suggested alternating our directors meeting according to where the fall convention is held.

·        Jeff Kempf suggested scheduling the directors meeting a year in advance.

·        Motion made by Dan Reich, seconded by Jeff Kempf to have our summer ITA Directors meeting at the convention site. Carried.

Unfinished business

·        Scholarship committee requested that 2 scholarships be given this year. Motion made by Gene Purdy, seconded by George Scalf to give 2 scholarships this year. Carried.

New Business

·        Dan Reich asked about moving the convention date. Jim Mallon did the research and found out this was not feasible.

·        Spencer Hill would like to establish a president’s appreciation award. The winner of this award is chosen by the President. It may be some individual, organization that makes a good impression to the president.

·        Motion was made by Randy Mitchell, seconded by Dean Hoffman to establish the President’s Appreciation Award.  Carried.

·        Gene Purdy had a request from a member to be able to vote by mail. It was decided to not pursue this due to the cost involved.

·        Gene Purdy will take bylaws recommendations. These need to be in by our January meeting.
